The Magnetic Church
Christian churches used to be a magnetic people. Now we are not. We have largely lost our magnetism. Now we have to work very hard at various kinds of mission and evangelism, in the hope of attracting the odd few.
Overall, as a religion, we are nowadays in steep decline. What’s changed?
Two thousand years ago the God-man Jesus Christ walked and talked and healed and taught the Kingdom of God. Thousands were drawn to him.
The Magnetic Church
Why?
The magnetic church is all about attracting people to become involved in christianity.
Christian magnetic church used to be a magnetic people. Now we are not. We have largely lost our magnetism. Now we have to work very hard at various kinds of mission and evangelism, in the hope of attracting the odd few.
Overall, as a religion, we are nowadays in steep decline. What’s changed?

Sadly, modern experience shows that witnessing to Kingdom miracles, in itself, does not generate any natural imkling to go deeper. They bear not even a fraction of the desired fruit crop.
Christ himself was magnetic church and is alive in his church today, so can we possibly think of reaching out to regain some of that natural magnetism and draw the crowds again? Yes, indeed, we surely can!
Good works are good but there are more ‘nice’ people outside the church than there are in it. It is hardly a witness to Christ alive.
Let us try the way that Jesus did it and the way the early church exploded across the Roman Empire.

Were they simply all attracted to a free health service or was it more likely that, when with him, they sensed something far more intriguing — the presence of God?

What did they do?
We, like them, should be proclaiming the nearness of the Kingdom of God.
Why?
Because it’s the way that Jesus taught his disciples to do it. If we do, then those around us begin to sense the presence of God in their own lives.
