Children of the Kingdom

Mark 10:13 – 16
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

The most remarkable thing about understanding the Kingdom of God is that, as a piece of theology, it is so simple. In fact it is so simple that grown-ups find it difficult to grasp. It is too simple for many of us. Teaching Kingdom to grown-ups is nothing short of darn hard work!

It’s just like the world of IT – if you have any problems then ask a grandchild and it’s all solved in seconds! And here comes something called AI…..what are we to make of that new world? It’s so complex no one can grasp it. Not much, anyway.

It’s almost like a second childhood! Letting go of my brain and moving forwards from my heart is the road that brings me into closer contact with the Kingdom of God. I have found that the whole of the New Testament is, actually, God’s way of persistently grabbing us and turning us around to face his staggeringly enormous promise of showing himself to us, through working with us. Not ‘through us’ but ‘with’ us! Everything else is grown-ups thrashing around and drowning in our own dirty puddles of manmade wisdom.

Why not immerse yourself in God’s wisdom which is a life in the Kingdom of God? Should you grow up? No, you should grow down, back where you came from, back into innocent simplicity of the love of God…..
