We must be careful here not to fall into one camp or the other but to keep a life with one foot in each, maintaining a proper balance between the two.
Camp 1 adherents put all their weight into truth, calling themselves Evangelical and sticking religiously and almost exclusively to the written Word of God.
Camp 2 adherents label themselves as Charismatic, working through life with most of their weight on the Spirit’s influence on their thinking and on their actions, leaving the written Word to particular times of study.
Jesus, in his teaching, was constantly pulling both extremes towards where he stood in the centre., between the two camps.
Unhappily, the spiritual tragedy of today is that some of those of us led by the spirit too easily interpret the Spirit’s guidance into our fleshly wants and needs, resulting in the absorption of the written Word becoming a little bent in our human brains. It soon becomes too easy to see God in our own base humanity. The entrenched Evangelical, on the other hand, is in real danger of failing to surrender his/her imagination to the Lord God, an act allowing real revelation and prophetic interpretation of the Word, at depth.
The danger remains that leaning towards one camp so often tends to lift the other foot out of the other camp as our weight shifts. We do not always remain in balance.
